set fire to the rain

Sometimes it scares me how obsessive I am. I wonder if everyone is as secretly obsessive as I am, or if it's just me. I think it might just be me.

Have you ever noticed that when you first listen to an album it's extremely difficult to distinguish one song from another? I guess that is the definition of style after all. But as soon as you listen to the album over and over, you begin to individualize each song. The trained ear will eventually be able to spot the subtle nuances particular to each song and certain songs will speak to you more than others. It just takes time.

why hello oscar

I must say, I was really looking forward to see the gowns from the Oscars last night. And I was thoroughly uninspired. Here are a few of my favorites. So few :(

I just love her. Mila Kunis can do no wrong on the red carpet. While her casual style isn't the greatest, she always kills it on the carpet. So pretty pastel, very different from her red at the golden globes. The lace on her dress almost looked like she had tattoos on her breasts haha, intriguing.

I find her so adorable. She seems to always nail it too. Her style is so young and fresh. And I personally love how she pulls her hair back, its such a clean, sleek look that not a lot of people opt for.

At first I was like ew. But then the more I kept staring at it the more it grew on me. I mean, she is undeniably HOT. Forsure, probably most guys' favorite of the night. It's almost so simple and unadorned that it's brilliant.

I am in love with Amy Adams! I used to find her a bit annoying in Enchanted, but she has definitely grown on me. She is simply stunning. The color, the sparkle, the way it fits her body. Beautiful.

Probably the simplest of my favorites, but sometimes simple can be a good thing. Perfect mix of tulle and sequins and the color of her dress is so subtley glamorous.

My FAVORITE! She was definitely best dressed of the night for me. So unique! I love the structure, its so architectual and the yellow beading is the perfect amount of color. Gorgeous.

imagine

This apartment has such a seventies feel to it. It has a very homey ambience with its soft, pastel colors. I get a very "Virgin Suicides" vibe from this place. I love how they just place a door in the corner of the room for decoration haha, so creative. I wonder if the furniture is actually vintage or just made to look antiquish. The only thing I would change is the color of the dresser. Its a little too fuschia for my taste.

workspace

One of the things I'm most excited to decorate is my "office"! I think that creating a beautiful workspace will get me excited to study. Ha. Maybe not in the long run, but at least for the first week or so. But there are so many different ways I could decorate. Decisions decisions! I still have time :)

My favorite:) And the most doable I would say.

mka

No one can accuse Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen of being followers. They follow no rules when it comes to fashion and never play it safe. While I must admit, many times, even they miss the mark, their fearlessness when it comes to style is undeniable. And it is this fearlessness that sets them apart from other "stylish" celebrities like Rachel Bilson and Nicole Richie (both of whom I adore, but they do tend to stick to the rules). Because of their refusal to follow trends, many of their looks are timeless. These photos range from 2007-2011 but I bet you can't tell which photo was taken when. And that's precisely the point.

P.S. Forgive me for using the word "follow" so many times in one paragraph. Maybe I'll use a thesaurus next time.

I love how it looks like she just threw together this outfit at the last minute. It looks so comfortable yet put together at the same time. Her structured purse keeps the outfit from looking too casual, and of course her lovely use of accessories.

The scarf is really the focal piece of this outfit. I like how she keeps everything else simple so the scarf can make a statement.

Everything here is perfect, From their gowns to their hair to their purses. Elegance perfected.

So pretty. So clean.

How can two tiny girls have such gigantic purses? What could they possibly have in there? I love how it looks like they just rushed out the door looking this stylish. I love their scarves and their casual cuffed pants.

I die for her earrings. And her hair.

So unbelievable hipster haha.

I adore the simplicity of the black and white ensemble. The flowiness of the skirt and the fierceness (yes, I just used the word fierceness) of the shoes keep it from being boring.

Rocker chic.

Side note: Just letting all two of you know that fashion will not be a regular thing on my blog. I tend to feel shallow when writing about such topics and reading my own comments about the photos almost makes me want to vomit. This is just a once in a blue moon type thing.

the future

So lately I have been thinking about my imminent move back home. It used to seem so far away, but now it's just a couple of months. While I know it's going to be chaotic and busy with applications and work (hopefully), there is one thing that I'm looking forward to: decorating my new room! Since I came to college, my room back at home kind of got demolished. Growing up I switched rooms a lot. I honestly can't remember which was my room before I left for college, but one is now my sisters room, one is an office and one is for storage. The exciting part is when I move back home I get to pick one of them and make it mine:) I've always loved interior decorating (at one point I wanted to be an interior decorator...but my parents hated that idea). I think having an environment that reflects you as a person and makes you feel comfortable is so important...to me at least. But I don't even know where to begin! There are so many directions I can go in, and to decorate even one room is not an easy task, let alone a cheap one. (It doesn't help that I also recently got into a car accident which is probably gonna drain another $1,500...at least). In conclusion, I have been browsing different design blogs to gain inspiration for my new project. It's time consuming yes, but addicting (and a little depressing-- I wish I had the money to make my place as beautiful!).

This apartment is exactly how I want my apartment in my mid-to-late twenties to look like. The heavy use of white is actually quite refreshing and makes any color really pop out. I used to think painted walls were the key to making a room look chic, but the white walls in this apartment toss that theory out the window. I adore the wood floor and the designer's perfect mixture of vintage and modern. It has an extremely cozy feel without looking too countryside.

And what an amazing collection of shoes!

firework

It's funny because I always thought chemistry was a two person process. Where if one person feels it, the other must too. But I guess it isn't the case. And I guess I now know you can't force chemistry.

When Finn kissed Quinn he saw fireworks. And he didn't see fireworks with Rachel. But it wasn't Rachel's fault. And it wasn't Finn's either. It is what it is.

california fish grill

I die for the salmon at california fish grill. I wish they had one in san diego. I really don't think ill ever get sick of it. That and lees. I love irvine.

city lights

I find these images to be absolutely stunning. Its amazing how photography can transport you to a world of complete fantasy. My favorite ones are the first and the last one mainly because they're far from "what you see is what you get." You have to take a double take to really swallow the image and still you are left wonderstruck.
